Raw Materials

For the most part our raw materials consist of trees that inhabit the Southeastern Arizona desert. Some of these trees are Jack oaks, White oaks, Velvet mesquite, Chilean mesquite, Cedar, Arizona cypress. Also there are some trees that grow domestically such as Eucalyptus, fruit and nut trees like apple, peach, and Arizona black walnut. The collections of pictures show our wood inventory at the moment, but this inventory changes as we use what we have and receive more of other trees as they become available. All our trees had to be cut down, and not by our choice, but due to road or house construction.

Sometimes we do acquire a tree due to some act of nature such as a violent wind storm. We never cut down perfectly good trees for any reason. We simply love healthy growing trees. Though we believe we make unique and beautiful furnishings, every last tree that we have used would look infinitely more beautiful as a standing viable living tree.

We endeavor to make the most of trees that must be cut down. While we do use wood as a fuel, our view of what constitutes firewood is often times radically different than what others view as firewood. Our idea of firewood is cut offs, scraps, and strips of bark that we don’t use for projects. We also put a great quantity of this waste to use by making it compost and ground cover for new trees we plant.
